People around the country rely on their local newspaper for trusted information about their communities that they just can’t get anywhere else.
Think you get all of your local news from social media? Ha! While it is a great way to keep in touch with friends, it has led Americans to spend more time online in virtual communities instead of the geographic communities where we live, pay taxes and elect local leaders.
Small towns like ours won’t survive with a lack of interest in local news and events. Those events or services think the Mullen Volunteer Fire Department and the Mullen Emergency Medical Services - won’t survive with a lack of volunteers.
Many people may be able to recite all the details of America’s current outrage, but they have no idea what their local elected boards are doing.
If you’re reading this, you probably already have a good understanding of why it is important to have a healthy newspaper in your town. By subscribing to or advertising in your local newspaper, you are providing much needed support to keep it coming week after week.
The Hooker County Tribune is local, produced by a local citizen who drives the same streets, shops in the same stores and has children in the same school as you. I share the same concerns as other residents. The Tribune makes a difference in our community in many ways. That’s true every week, not just during National Newspaper Week.
