2nd graders learn how large structures are built

The 2nd grade students recently examined how large structures like houses are built from smaller pieces. They then designed their own structures using paper. Students built towers using 3' x 5' index cards and paper clips. First they built tall towers, then they were challenged to build towers strong enough to support a hardcover book.

8th graders visit college campuses

The Mullen 8th grade students were able to utilize an EducationQuest 8th Grade Campus Visit grant to visit Hastings College, Central Community College - Hastings, Central Community College - Grand Island and the University of Nebraska - Kearney last week. These colleges pulled out all the stops to show the students opportunities beyond high school. They have spent this quarter with Ms. Kara Connealy completing interest inventories, learning about strengths and values and learning about plans to achieve career goals. After this visit, they will be mapping out courses in high school and beyond to reach their future endeavors. Mullen FFA attends State Convention

by Hope Miller, MHS freshman and Advisor Kelsey Phillips Mullen went to the State FFA Convention April 3-5. Oakes Miller, Cody Walker, Hayden Morrison and Kassidy Cheever all went to State to compete in Quiz Bowl.

4 FCCLA members qualify for Nationals

Thirteen members from Mullen traveled to Lincoln for the annual FCCLA State Leadership Conference April 7-9. While attending the conference, students heard from keynote speaker, Coach VJ, who shared her experience playing basketball and becoming mentally tough.

Simonson to be on Best of the Best, to compete at national speech

Mullen High School senior Ashlyn Simonson, who was the Class D2 State Champion in Persuasive Speaking last month, was selected out of all of the state champions (Classes A, B, C1, C2, D1 and D2) for the 2024 NSAA Speech Championships: Best of the Best in her category with her speech, “Death by Dollar General.”
