Pieces of Me

As much as we’d like life to be a constant highlight reel, we all experience both highs and lows.If our family looked back at our last week or so with a glass half empty mindset, we could list some disappointments lately.

My dad tells me that I cheat when I fill this space with a recipe… sorry, Dad!Our strawberry patch did great this year, and I’ve made all kinds of goodies with the berries. I just tried this recipe over the weekend and we were fans, so I’m sharing it with you!

The Legislature is officially between the first and second half of the 109th Legislature. We will meet for the second session of the 109th Legislature on the first Wednesday after the first Monday in January 2026. This will be the short 60-day session.

At 5’5.5”, apparently I’m above average height for a woman in the U.S. Google says the average height for a woman here is 5’3.5”.Looking back at elementary photos of my class, I was one of, if not the, tallest in my class for most of my elementary years.But I reached my 5’5.

Dear Dave, What do you think about the idea of taking money out of your emergency fund in order to pay off your home early?Dear Evans, Trust me, I understand how it can be very tempting to throw a bunch of money at your house, get rid of the mortgage payments and own it outright.

Update from Senator Jacobson

The Legislature officially adjourned Sine Die on Monday, June 2, 2025 (Day 89). It is not uncommon to adjourn early, but there’s a certain amount of risk to passing bills without the chance to override a veto. Every bill passed must be sent to the Governor’s office for his signature.

Last week I had two different interactions with people who were visiting Mullen for the first time and they were impressed.One lady was practically gushing to everyone she interacted with about how our town is thriving compared to her smaller village, which she described as dying.

Dear Dave, My fiancé and I are getting married this year.We’re both in our 40s with kids, so we’ll be a blended family. The thing that worries me is that we have drastically different views on handling money. I’m a saver, and he’s a spender. I also make significantly more money than he does.
