This past week, Julie and I were able to attend the Governor’s Ag and Economic Development Summit in Kearney. It had record attendance, and lots of valuable information was shared.

Our family was able to take a long weekend away before school starts this week. With my husband having a new job, it was the only real “getaway” we had this summer. We did both spend plenty of time working from afar, but it was still a great weekend.

I hesitated to write this article, but I thought the message was timely. During my time in the Legislature, my focus has been to try to represent the issues important to the residents of District 42, regardless of political affiliation.

As many of you know, I grew up on a rented farm in Clay County, Nebraska, with seven brothers and sisters. We knew what it was like to make do with less. We really had no choice. We also learned that hard work was a way to make money and buy the items that you needed.

Whew! That’s how I feel every year as I fill the last inches of space in the fair issue.I haven’t checked the Tribune camera card total number yet, but I’d guess we took around 2,000 photos over a week.

Dear Dave, My husband and I recently began trying to get out of debt and live on a budget. I love your plan, but he’s having a hard time getting adjusted to keeping track of things. He loves to eat out during the week.

It’s my favorite week of the year - fair week!I was a member of Hooker County’s Country Clovers 4-H Club for 11 years as a kid and my three younger siblings and I were all very involved in 4-H.Between all of us, we tried nearly everything that 4-H had to offer.

I have read several articles touting the new attempt to revive the EPIC tax proposal, which failed to secure the necessary signatures to get on the 2024 ballot. The new proposal is billed as EPIC Option 2.0.

When I initially accepted the appointment to the Legislature and then ran for the office, I did so to make a difference for District 42 and rural Nebraska.For too long, I have felt that we have not received our fair share of state resources and attention.

Dear Dave, I just started listening to your radio show a few months ago, and I love your advice. I do have a question about the order of two of the Baby Steps, though. The list puts saving for retirement ahead of putting money aside for college if you have kids. Why do you suggest this?
