    The 38th annual Sandhills Sharptail Shootout was held in Mullen last week, with the awards banquet held at the Hooker County Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 21. 
    Seventeen teams competed this year, representing 11 states: Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, Wisconsin, Missouri, Iowa, South Dakota, Kansas, Texas, Virginia and Ohio.
    This year’s 17 teams harvested 151 birds, with 5 teams shooting their limit. Last year’s 20 teams harvested 115 birds, with 1 team shooting their limit. 
    Awards presented Saturday night included:
    Individual trapshoot
    New Shooters - 1st - Nathan Hofer, On Point - 25 out of 25 - the first perfect score on the wobble trap at Sharptail. 2nd - Lucas Anderson, Chicken Snipers - 24 out of 25.
    Past Shooters - 1st - Ryan Glow, On Point - 23 out of 25. 2nd - Jeremy Canning, Point ‘N’ Flush - 22 out of 25.
    The overall trapshoot champion was Nathan Hofer.

    The Tough Luck award was presented to Chicken Snipers - 1 shot fired, 0 birds killed, last shot fired at 10:40 a.m. 
    The landowner traveling trophy was awarded to Oley Olson and Tim Andersen.
    The Sandhills Sharptail Shootout Volunteer of the Year Award in Memory of Dave Anderson was presented to Jay Lovitt. 
    Winning the gun drawings for landowner, guide and scorekeeper were: John Parsons - landowner, Jade Lovitt - guide, Jason Cheney - scorekeeper. 
    The landowner drawing winner for the four wheeler was Thad Emerson. It was donated in cooperation with AGLand ATV of Broken Bow, the Sharptail Shootout Committee and the Past Shooters Committee.
