Healthcare providers to offer services at Mullen clinic

by Gerri Peterson

The Mullen community will only be without a medical clinic for about a month.

When Dr. Steve Boyer and Dr. Margaret Cavanaugh-Boyer retired from Great Plains Family Medicine - Mullen Clinic last month, Great Plains Health closed the Mullen clinic.

But Great Plains Health was only renting the building from the Sandhills Medical Foundation, which has owned the building since it was built in the 1980s.

Boyers helped find doctors willing to help provide healthcare services for Mullen and the surrounding rural area.

Becca Connealy, RN, of Whitman will continue to On Mondays Dr. Kelley Hasenauer, APRN-NP, of Platte Valley Women’s Healthcare will be in Mullen to provide family practice services, beginning Oct. 28. Call 308-5340090 to schedule an appointment.

On Wednesdays Traci Hoatson, MS, APRN, FNP-BC, PMHNP-BC, and Laurie Soper, MS, APRN, FNP-BC, of Wise Choice Health Care will be in Mullen to provide family practice and mental health services, beginning Oct. 30. At their first “Wise Choice Wednesday” they will hold an open house from 8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. with free blood pressure checks, annual blood draws, DOT physicals, influenza vaccinations, and/or annual Medicare physicals. Call 308-221-6228 to schedule an appointment.

Telehealth appointments are also available.

Both providers expressed that they are looking forward to serving the Mullen community.

“We know the Boyers are a hard act to follow and we think the world of both of them,” Traci Hoatson said. “They will definitely be missed and we will do our best to continue the same kind of hometown care you have had for years from the Boyers.”

It is in the works for a third provider to come up on possibly Thursdays, but it was not official as of press time. Watch future issues of the Tribune for more information.

The Mullen clinic number (308-546-2213) will also still be in service to schedule appointments.
