Local weather service radar to be down

Beginning Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, the KLNX WSR-88D radar operated by the NOAA National Weather Service in North Platte, Nebraska will be down for approximately seven days for the replacement of the generator, fuel tanks, and accompanying components.

Mullen Book Club to meet on March 15

The Mullen Book Club will meet next on Wednesday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the Mullen Arts Center to discuss “Water from my Heart” by Charles Martin. You are welcome to bring a beverage or appetizer to share. Copies of the book are available at the Hooker County Library.

Frank Harding has enjoyed having daughter Karen Juzenas home these past few days. Karen officiated funeral services for Dolores Wright and Sunday church services in Hyannis and Mullen. Also wanted to be sure to wish Frank a happy 101st birthday!

Bob and Peggy Marsh attended Dolores Wright’s funeral service Friday afternoon. Following the service, they headed to North Platte to visit Charlie Jones at Great Plains Health. They also visited with Bill Thurston of Hyannis at Linden Court.

Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska has kicked off the 2023 Girl Scout Cookie Program, the world’s largest entrepreneurial program for girls. New this year is the Raspberry Rally™, a thin, crispy cookie infused with raspberry flavor and dipped in delicious chocolaty coating, offered exclusively online.

Village of Mullen awarded scrap tire grant

Lincoln - Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy Director Jim Macy announced on Feb. 6, 2023, the award of $7,733,191.25 in grants to support 140 projects across the state.
Mullen Elementary second grader Lillian Ericksen recently donated 14 inches of her hair to Wigs for Kids. Wigs are custom made with human hair and donated to children with various medical conditions. It was a little tough to make the drastic cut (little sister cried while watching big sis get the hair cut). But they discussed that it was a small inconvenience compared to what some other kids are experiencing. Awesome, Lillian! Alicia Ericksen
