by Gerri Peterson The holiday season oftentimes coincides with the largest donations to the Mullen Food Pantry.Located in the basement of the Assembly of God Church, the food pantry originated in the Hooker County Courthouse over 25 years ago.

Last Thursday afternoon, Nov. 6, firefighters were called to Mule Deer Road in southern Hooker County for a fire started by a pickup.Thankfully there wasn’t much wind, but there was plenty of fuel in pastures that had come back in great shape from fires last spring, according Marland.

Geomagnetic storms brought the northern lights to much of the U.S. last week. In the Mullen area, they were especially spectacular Tuesday evening, Nov. 11. Cameras on night mode brought out vivid colors of red, pink and green, but the colors were visible with the naked eye as well.

My Apology to a Sunflower

There was this sunflower, four feet tall, minding its sunflower business, growing by the gatepost.Here I come to open the gate.I had to stomp on the sunflower to even open the gate so the sunflower got even.I opened the gate, started to step through the gate and the sunflower attacked.
