Winifred “Winnie” Ann Cooley, age 89, of Mullen passed away on Aug. 17, 2026, at the Great Plains Health in North Platte.
Winifred Ann Cooley was born on Feb. 25, 1937, at Gibbon, Nebraska, to Fred and Rose (Jelinek) Micheel.
Winnie grew up at Thedford and graduated from Thedford High School.
On June 3, 1956, she was united in marriage to Cyrus Cooley at Thedford. The couple lived in Missouri for seven years before returning to the Sandhills of Nebraska. Winnie and Cyrus spent the rest of their lives in the Mullen area.
Cyrus died in 1995.
Winnie was an active member of the Mullen Methodist Church, the Legion Auxiliary, Red Hats and many other organizations through the years. She greatly enjoyed her yard and her huge garden.
Survivors include her sons Doug Cooley and wife Kim, and Fritz Cooley and his wife Carla all of Mullen, three grandchildren Brandon (fiancé Samantha) Cooley, Traci (Ethan) Johnson and Travis (Shalea) Cooley, and greatgrandchildren Atlee, Breckyn, Beckham and Whytlea.
Winnie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, sisters Helen Leaf, Thelma Sanders and Elaine Ballard.
A graveside service was held Aug. 25, 2026, at the Cedarview Cemetery in Mullen.
Memorials are suggested to the Mullen Methodist Church or Mullen Ambulance.
