1st graders learn about book awards

The 1st graders have been learning about book awards during library time. Recently they learned about the Caldecott Medal, which is given each year to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children. They read, "Where the Wild Things Are" whose author and illustrator, Maurice Sendak, won the award in 1964. Afterwards, they created their own "wild things" by drawing and building them which turned out to be much more challenging than they thought it would be. Emily Stichka
