With a heart full of love and a spirit of generosity, Sherri (Rust) O'Brien passed away Jan. 26, 2025. Sherri lived her life as a testament to the transformative power of kindness and faithfulness of Jesus Christ.
Born Aug. 11, 1954, in Superior, Nebraska, Sherri created a legacy of compassion and love that touched everyone who knew her. Sherri's devotion to her family, her faith, and her community was inspiring, and she lived every day with a joyful heart and a thoughtful soul.
Sherri married Arden Watson on Sept. 26, 1972, and had two children Joseph and Sarah. Sherri then married John “Mike” O’Brien Sept. 9, 1995, gaining three daughters Emmylou, Katie and Hollie.
Sherri's career spanned several roles, from a bank teller in Hastings to a claims supervisor at MCNA Dental in Lincoln. She brought passion to her hobbies, which included cooking, crafting, devotions and spending quality time with her cherished grandchildren. Sherri also had a soft spot for Westies, and she held a special place in her heart for her little Oscar.
Sherri's life was one of meaningful relationships and heartfelt connections. She is survived by her loving husband, John “Mike” O’Brien; son, Joseph Watson (Kate); daughter, Sarah Kissinger (Kevin); stepdaughters, Emmylou Flanagan (Chad), Katie Speer (Nathan), and Hollie O'Brien; grandchildren, Augustus, Maxwell, Ella, Bailey, Mallory, Zachary, Nathan, Eliott, Kinsley, Charlotte, Brinley, and Isabelle, and three great-grandchildren.
Sherri was preceded in death by her parents, sister, brother-in-laws, and sister-inlaws.
