Alberta Ann Jones was born to A.O. “Pete” and Mabel (Matthews) Jones on April 13, 1942, in her great-uncle and aunt, Bill and Alice Jones’ home at Hyannis. Her early years were spent living on ranches where her father worked and attending rural country schools near Hyannis and Brownlee. She was the eldest and her father’s right hand, whether it was working cattle or milking cows. Alberta graduated from Thedford High School in 1960. She worked as a nurse at the Mullen Clinic.

Alberta was united in marriage to Chancey L. Kramer on April 23, 1961, at St. Joseph’s Episcopal Church, Mullen. To this union were born three children, Veronica, Shawnna and Charles Hyde.

They ranched with Chancey’s father north of Mullen. Then they bought their own ranch north of Hyannis, where they built their Black Angus cattle operation.

Alberta stayed busy as a wife, mom and rancher. She was a multitasker, spending summers stacking hay and winters feeding cows. Her first and last love was her horses. She also enjoyed playing the piano. Alberta loved ranching, raising baby calves, colts and pigs, and the Sandhills. She enjoyed attending her children’s 4-H and athletic events, especially wrestling meets, girls’ basketball games and rodeos. She strongly believed in education and was proud that all her children had degrees.

Alberta was blessed by five grandchildren, Owen, Teila, Rigan, James and Luke.

When Alberta and Chancey retired, they moved to their home in Yoder, Wyoming. Several college students roomed with her while attending Eastern Wyoming College. She truly enjoyed helping young people see their own goodness and talents. She also attended her grandkids’ sporting events whenever possible. She never backed away from a challenge and was all about making things work. Alberta believed in using your head, working hard and trying one more time. She didn’t know the meaning of quit. She most loved having a good conversation with a friend and helping someone that needed it. She is loved and will be missed by many.

She was preceded in death by her parents; “Pete” and Mabel Jones; her husband, Chancey Kramer; a grandson, Owen Gardner; and a nephew, Ryan McCune.
