Kenneth Galloway

Kenneth Andrew Galloway was the third and final son of Don and Amy (Dooley) Galloway. He was born in Chadron, Nebraska, Sept. 5, 1955. The three boys had an adventurous life raising themselves in the Nebraska Sandhills.

At about the age of 10, Ken and his family moved to Omaha. From that age on, he primarily lived in Omaha, but he did live in many other places for short durations, South Dakota, Mullen, Nebraska (where Kenneth attended his junior year of high school in 1971), Indiana and then Illinois/ California when he was in the Navy.

Ken fathered three children.

He was the stand in father for many, but especially for Theresa, Natasha, Kim and Lisa. Ken and Anita became replacement parents and then grandparents for many kids.

Due to his adventures as a child, Ken and Anita chose to have their household become a sanctuary to anyone that walked through their doors.

Ken was a fantastic storyteller, though sometimes it came across as a lecture - to those of you that were able to stay awake during his marathon talks - please know he was trying to help and though you may have slept, you’ll always hear his voice in your memories. And you know that he loved you dearly.

Ken was EXTREMELY safety conscious including hauling the largest first aid kit everywhere he went.

Ken was a hard worker. When Ken and Anita met, Ken was working two jobs - a welder at Fruehauf and armored car driver at Security International AND he was looking for a third job. He held many different jobs in his life until he was hired at UNO, where he remained and retired from after 37 years in 2022.

Ken brought a myriad of things to the house... from hunting he brought: duck, geese, grouse and dove. From elsewhere: magnets, 5 gallon buckets, beach and bath towels, tennis shoes, bags for athletic gear, boxes of Nitrile gloves (in various sizes), mesh bags used to wash athletic gear, cardboard boxes, first aid supplies, vinyl shower curtains, umbrellas, empty plastic containers - I think you get the idea.

During his time in the Navy, he was trained to be a Boiler Tech and was exposed to asbestos during all of his duties, both on his ship and when they tied up to other ships to repair. In 2001, it was discovered that he had encapsulated asbestos in both of his lungs. By May 2023, the asbestos exposure had developed into mesothelioma in his right lung. By the time of his death, it was also in lymph nodes and attached to his spine.

Ken was pre-deceased by both of his parents, and both brothers - Donn and Monty.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Anita, his three children, three step-children, granddaughter Anastasia, many children with their families, cousins, nieces, nephews and dear friends.

A memorial service was held on Sept. 9, 2024, at Westlawn-Hillcrest Funeral Home in Omaha with burial at Westlawn-Hillcrest Memorial Park.
