Larry Pearson

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Arthur Pearson, who left this world on Feb. 9, 2025, at the age of 80.

Larry was born on June 10, 1944, to John and Norma (Andrews) Pearson in Mullen, Nebraska.

Larry was a man whose generosity, loyalty, humility and deep love for his family touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

Larry grew up in the Sandhills of Nebraska with his twin sisters, Marilyn Pearson and Carolyn LaBore, and maintained close relationships with family and friends in the Sandhills throughout his life.

At Mullen High School, Larry played end for the Mullen Bronco football team, catching passes from his good friend Dean Elliott in eightman football. Larry excelled in running track and had fond memories of running with his friends. He cherished memories about his opportunity to run in Memorial Stadium (the home of his beloved Huskers) in Lincoln, Nebraska, for the Nebraska State Championship Track Meet. Mullen, along with his family and friends that lived in the area, held a special place in Larry’s heart, and he loved traveling with Carol to spend their summers there.

On Jan. 22, 1965, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Carol Jean Humphrey on a snowy day in Mullen amongst family and friends. The wedding was the start of something beautiful, a committed marriage that stood the test of time and left a legacy of love, commitment and generosity to their family that continues to grow and be a blessing to many people.

In the early 1970s, Larry and his family moved to Fallbrook, California, where he and his father, John Pearson, started a successful grading and earthmoving business. Larry found fulfillment in operating heavy equipment to build house pads in San Diego and Riverside Counties. With over 50 years in the industry, Larry earned great respect for his skill and dedication. Whether working with property owners, general contractors, engineers, the equipment rental company or laborers, Larry was loved for his genuine care and respect for the people he worked with.

Larry loved his dogs, and over the years, he had many. It always seemed that he had a special connection with them that went beyond the typical bond between a person and their pet. He had a unique way of making each dog feel loved and cared for. It was clear to anyone who saw them together that his dogs were an important part of who Larry was.

Larry also enjoyed watching NASCAR on Sundays and cheering on his favorite drivers. He was a loyal Ford man, and people would often spot him driving around in his big red Ford truck.

As a lifelong Nebraska football fan, Larry bled Husker red until the day he died. His passion for the Huskers brought him joy and heartbreak over the years. Through the ups and downs, Larry faithfully supported his Huskers and enjoyed watching games or talking football with his family and friends. Larry enjoyed going to watch Nebraska play USC this past year with his entire family to celebrate his 80th birthday, as well as watching the Huskers go out on top to end their 7-year bowl drought.

Above all, Larry loved his family. He took pride in providing for them, encouraging them, and spending time with them. He was a proud dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa and mentored them through his actions.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years Carol, his kids: Pamela (Rory) Nocon, Wade (Michele) Pearson, Tyler (Carli) Pearson; grandchildren: Sydney (Will) Everett, Sara Pearson, Devon Nocon, Malakai, Luciana, Elliana and Mila Pearson; great-grandchild Aubrey Everett, his sisters: Marilyn Pearson and Carolyn (Robert) LaBore and many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents: Norma and John Pearson, and parents- in-law: Phyllis and Emery Humphrey.

Larry’s soul is now at peace with Jesus in heaven, and we believe he is celebrating with all his loved ones in heaven who went before him. While he will be greatly missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. Larry, your memory will forever remain in our hearts, and we look forward to seeing you again in heaven. In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Ghost, rest in peace and Go Big Red!

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Feb. 22, 2025, at 3 p.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Fallbrook, California.
