I wrote an article a couple weeks ago regarding the need for local political subdivisions to focus on their spending if you want you to keep your property taxes in check. Some of the feedback I have gotten since that time suggests I may need to walk through how our property taxes are determined.

It’s Monday and I’ve felt a bit behind all day. I’m not sure why.Maybe it was the load of laundry I did this morning. I rolled the hamper to the washing machine yesterday, but then decided to wait to do it this morning.

This past weekend (May 2-3) was the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend, when our nation honors the brave volunteer and career firefighters who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.We give special reverence to those we have lost over the past year.

Banquet season wrapped up this week for Mullen Public Schools, with the Athletic Banquet being held Monday evening.We all have our go-to dishes that we take to potluck style meals and one of my favorites is fruit salad. Cut a variety of fresh fruit up into bite sized pieces and mix together.

Dear Dave, My husband and I are 38 years old.We’re completely debtfree, we each have great jobs with honest, conscientious companies, and we’re doing very well financially. We tithe regularly to our church, and we try to give wisely to civic groups and non-profit organizations in the area.

With the legislative session over, it’s time to turn our attention to the election and the agenda for next year. Since my election in 2022, I have served on the Banking, Commerce, and Insurance Committee and, for the last two years, as its chairman.

Dear Dave, I’ll be graduating college in May with a degree in elementary education. I’ll have a job at a local school waiting for me, and this will be the first time in my life I’ve made more than minimum wage. The great news is my new job will raise our household income to over $100,000 a year.

This past Friday marked the 60th and final day of the 109th Legislature. Generally, Day 60 is reserved for ceremonial activities that include an address by the Governor and the Speaker, plus farewell comments from the departing Senators in the second year of the biennium.
