I spent much of last week working in Lincoln, but I made a special trip back to North Platte on Friday morning to take part in the “Recognition Coin” presentation for area Korean War veterans.

I knew better.Mondays are always a bit hectic here at the Tribune. The deadline for the public to have items to me for each week’s issue is noon on Mondays. I then stay up as late as I need to in order to send the pages to the press.I think going to bed after 9:00 p.m. is late.

Dear Dave, My husband loves his job, works a regular schedule and he makes over $180,000 a year. I love my work as a part-time substitute teacher in our local school system.

Last week, the United States Supreme Court announced it will hear Nebraska’s case against Colorado for failing to honor the terms of the 1923 South Platte River Compact. The case centers on Colorado’s failure to restrict junior water users whose use affects the water that should flow to Nebraska.

My Fourth of July started with a 4:10 a.m. alarm.A week before, I finally remembered to ask my 13-yearold if he’d run the Scott’s Trot 5K at the Halsey forest with me. I had already been rejected by his dad. But Teal immediately said, “Sure, I’ll do it with you.”Neither one of us really trained.

Dear Dave, My fiancée and I are getting married in a few months. Everything seems great between us, except when it comes to money and finances. She’s not a big spender, but not long after we got engaged, she said she wants me to manage the money and make all the financial decisions.

It’s that time of year again! This last week was consumed by Nebraskaland Days activities. Nebraskaland Days is the State’s official statewide celebration and began in Lincoln in 1965. It moved to North Platte in 1968 to tie the celebration with Buffalo Bill Cody.

I came upon this easy copycat recipe for Belvita bars shortly after our daughter had me buy some for the first time.We like them a bit thicker than this recipe makes, so I double the recipe (except the salt) and bake them for 17-20 minutes.
