I hate being scared.I also hate snakes, a fact my husband Dane knew but found out to what extent not long after we were married.I was at the kitchen sink one day when he came home from work, coming up behind me and giving me a hug.

Dave Says

Dear Dave, I’m 50 years old, and through a series of bad life decisions, I have nothing set aside for retirement. Now that I’m finally in a better place financially, I’m getting to the age where people say to invest conservatively.

Pieces of Me

Somewhere in the road ditch between Whitman and Mullen on Nebraska Highway 2 was supposed to be a wad of chewed gum, thrown out the car window at 68 mph. Actually probably 70 mph - my husband was the one driving, after all.

Update from Senator Jacobson

When the Legislature reconvenes on Tuesday, we will begin the 36th day of the 60-day session. We will also begin all-day debate since committee bill hearings ended this past Friday. Even with all-day debate, it will be a challenge to move all the remaining priority bills with only 24 days remaining.

Dave Says

Dear Dave,I talked to my dad the other day, and he wants me to pay for his life insurance policy. He says I should look at it as an investment, and he doesn’t want to pay for it himself anymore, since he’ll never get any benefit from the policy. My dad is 65 and in pretty good health.

We are officially at the halfway point of the session.Committees will hold their final bill hearings this week, and we will begin all-day floor debate on Monday, March 2.

Pieces of Me

It’s another Monday evening, which means it’s time to write another Pieces of Me.Mondays are my busiest days in the office, sending the newspaper to the press before I call it a day.As a newspaper publisher, wife and mom, my days of the week have similar schedules, but they’re also always different.

Dave Says

Dear Dave,My husband and I make $180,000 a year combined. Right now, we’re working on our debt snowball.We’re almost debt-free except for our home, but we still have a little bit left on two car payments and some credit card debt.

Pieces of Me

Most of us in the Nebraska Sandhills have a freezer full of beef. I discovered this recipe several years ago when I was hunting for other ideas besides stew to use “stew meat.”It’s easy, delicious and one of my family’s favorites served over mashed potatoes!
