Here at the Tribune it’s one of the rare times of the year when I feel caught up on all things work for more than a day or two at a time. As a one-woman shop I have learned to prioritize like… well, a boss. I have a to-do list that I keep in Notes on my iPhone that I’m constantly editing.

Dear Dave, About a year ago, my husband and I offered an empty house we own to a young man at our church, who had lost his home and everything he owned in a fire. He has taken good care of the place, but has made no effort to pay rent.

I spent the better part of last week in Lincoln attending various meetings, including the annual Platte Institute’s Legislative Summit. Speaker John Arch delivered the opening address. Speaker Arch faced a huge challenge in the 2023 session.

Dear Dave, My girlfriend’s parents are divorced, and they’re both in their early seventies. We talked the other night, and she’s thinking about buying them each life insurance policies. The only coverage her dad has is through his employer.

Back in 2019, I like many others, binge-watched Tidying Up with Marie Kondo on Netflix. The queen of decluttering, she encourages people to get rid of items that don’t bring them joy. It was just the kick I needed to finally do a massive closet purge.

Dear Dave, My car was declared totaled because of hail damage, and my insurance company says I have two options. One is to take a higher total loss settlement check of $19,000 and use it toward the purchase of another car. The insurance company would then take possession of the car.

I’d classify myself as a “crunchy mom” in several but not all - aspects. Making elderberry syrup as an immune booster definitely falls into the crunchy mom definition. Research has shown that elderberries can help avoid illnesses and speed recovery time when you do get sick.
