Julie and I had the opportunity to attend the Nebraska Family Alliance’s annual gala in Omaha this past Thursday night. I was honored to receive the “Life and Liberty” award, along with several of my colleagues who voted to support stronger abortion restrictions last session.

It’s nearly 11 p.m. Sunday night, which is waaaaay past my bedtime. This new press deadline of first thing Monday mornings means I’m in the office nearly seven days a week now. Not full days, thankfully, but I think I’ve been sitting here for around three hours this Sunday.

Growing up attending the Nebraska State Fair in Lincoln, I’ll forever say that the new facility in Grand Island just doesn’t have the same atmosphere. However, since 2010 when Grand Island became the location, it does make it much easier for our family to make the state fair a day trip.

Dear Dave, My motherin- law is 85, and she’s had some health setbacks recently. The family got together with her, and as a group, we decided it was time to sell her property and move her into an apartment at a nice senior living facility.

A one time dying art, interest in canning began to increase in 2020 when supply chain disruptions, extra time at home and then inflation motivated people to preserve food for another day.

This past weekend, Julie and I were happy to take part in the annual Hershey Fall Fest parade. As an added bonus, we were joined by Miss Nebraska 2023 Morgan Baird. Prior to becoming Miss Nebraska, Morgan served as a page in the Nebraska Legislature. She is a class act.

Dear Dave, I’ve heard you talk about paying for college for your kids. Why is this a requirement? I’m not trying to shirk my responsibility, but I worked my way through college and so did my parents. My wife and I have talked about paying for their books and maybe rent. Am I missing something here?
