With the Legislature out of session, it has been nice to spend more time in the District, but haven’t slowed down! Julie and I were able to attend the first night of the Miss Nebraska contest, which continues to be a major statewide event that is held each year in North Platte.

Last week, I discussed the progress made by the Legislature this year to curb property taxes. This week, I’m addressing the work done on income taxes and social security taxes at the state level. Currently, Nebraska’s current top marginal income tax rate of 6.64% ranks 31st among all states.

This past Thursday, the Nebraska Legislature concluded the first session of the 108th Legislature. Although we adjourned on Day 88 of a possible 90 days, we were able to consider all vetoes and pass priority bill packages before we adjourned.

I thought April and May were busy. Then June hit. Whew! T-ball, baseball, bb gun, 4-H pigs, alumni, Vacation Bible School - and that’s not everything on our calendar. But I’m seeing a common theme here. Every single one of these activities/events are possible because of volunteers.
