Popsicles. Sunscreen. Watermelon. Sprinklers. Bug spray. Late bedtimes. While the first week of the actual season is still three weeks away, it sure feels like summer to me.

Last week proved to be the most eventful week of the session thus far. It started on and ended with the Legislature voting on LB574. On Tuesday, the Legislature voted to return LB574, the Let Them Grow Act, to Select File for a specific amendment. That amendment did two things.

It’s one of my favorite seasons - rhubarb season! Our little family of four consumed a 9x13 pan of rhubarb crisp in less than a week and our 10-year-old and 6-year-old were both still requesting it for dessert when it was gone. Same with the rhubarb sweet rolls that I made for breakfast next.

I rolled over in bed sometime in the early hours of Mother’s Day and brushed against a piece of paper laying next to me. I’m not even sure what time it was, but I woke up enough to put whatever it was on my nightstand.

Last week, the Appropriations Committee advanced the mainline budget bills and issued the biennial budget report for fiscal year 2023-24 and fiscal year 2024-25. The state’s fiscal year begins on July 1 and ends on June 30 each year.
