Last week was, without a doubt, the most difficult week that I have spent in the Legislature. As many of you know, we ended the week by considering LB626, the Nebraska Heartbeat Act, on its second round of debate.

“Geez, Mom, what are you going to be like when I graduate?” This is what our 10-year-old son, Teal, said to me as I was trying to hold myself together while proofreading this year’s senior stories. Ugh. They make me teary every year!

Dear Dave, I plan to buy another investment property with cash in the next year or two. Currently, I have $83,000 sitting in a high-yield savings account at 4% interest. My goal is to save another $50,000 to $70,000 in the upcoming months.

This week, I want to start by addressing fliers that many of you received over the past few weeks regarding medical marijuana legislation. The bill in question is LB588, The Medicinal Cannabis Act.

More hours in the day is something that I oftentimes wish I had. My alarm goes off hours before I would like to be getting out of bed. It’s 5:00 p.m. already and I didn’t get as much work done as I needed to. It’s Monday and somehow my to-do list grew instead of shrank over the weekend.

Dear Dave, I was recently in a car accident that totaled my car. My old car was paid for, and the insurance company is writing it off and giving me $15,000. I’m a physical therapist who does home care treatment, so I need a reliable car for work.

If your career field puts on conventions like the Nebraska Press Association does for my career field, I highly recommend attending. Talk about a morale boost! I’m back from what my husband Dane called my “vacay.

This past week was another week filled with filibuster activity. We did, however, engage in some good debate on several issues, including bills related to school funding, abortion restrictions, and gender-affirming treatment for minors. We also began debate on some of the committee priority bills.
