Dear Dave, My wife and I have been married for nine months, and we’ve been following your Baby Steps plan for three months.We have about $50,000 in debt, and I recently cashed out an old whole life policy that enabled us to pay off $22,000 of our debt.

Monday marks Day 18 of the 60-day legislative session. We are still having floor debate every morning and then moving to hearings beginning every afternoon. Hearings will end on Feb. 27 (Day 35), and we will then proceed to all-day floor debate for the remainder of the session.

Thanks to our junior high son, I watch a lot more college and professional sports than I would otherwise.However, I use the word “watch” loosely. I’m not one to just sit without working on a project too.

Last week was shortened due to the Martin Luther King holiday on Monday, but it was a busy week in the Legislature as we began afternoon committee hearings. Since the Banking, Commerce, and Insurance Committee meets on Monday and Tuesday, we only met on Tuesday this week.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, we will begin Day 9 of the 60-day session and begin holding committee hearings in the afternoons. Most hearings will start at 1:30 p.m. each day.

The legislative session began last Wednesday with some extra twists. The hearing regarding Senator McKeon’s possible expulsion is scheduled for Monday, Jan. 12, at 9:00 a.m.
