Happenings on the Hill

Greetings family and friends! We really hope you all are doing well! It’s hard to believe that we are already in the middle of September and that Labor Day has come and gone. We are still enjoying these nice days while they last. I am so sorry that the news will be short this week.

Mullen Residents, After attending the football game on Friday, Aug. 27, I’m sad at the bleacher arrangement used on the visitors side for seating. I understand some guests had to pull the bleachers to level ground and there is no hand rail for older people who have a hard time climbing up and down.

Dear Dave, Are umbrella insurance policies worth it, or do they just entice people to sue more frequently? Tammi Dear Tammi, I don’t think there’s any indication umbrella policies entice folks to bring lawsuits more frequently. If you hadn’t noticed, we live in a lawsuithappy world.

Dear Dave, What are your views on teaching children good work habits? Many of our friends don’t require their kids to help out or work around the house, but we both strongly feel that instilling a strong work ethic early in life is one of the best things you can do as a parent for your children.

Dear Dave, I brought about $15,000 in student loan debt into our marriage. I’m 26, my wife is 27, and we’ve been married a little over a year. During that time, our parents have helped us out with financial gifts occasionally. Whenever this happens, my wife and I get into an argument.

Dear Dave, My husband and I have a rental property in South Carolina we want to sell. The current renters’ lease is up in December, but our property manager tells us the renters won’t let anyone in the home, not even just for photos to post online due to COVID-19.
