Donate blood next Monday, Oct. 9

Mullen - The community is invited to help save lives by donating blood during Liver Awareness Month this October on Oct. 9, 2023, from 12-6 p.m. at Sandhills Community Bible Church. According to the American Liver Foundation, more than 6,000 liver transplants are performed each year in the U.S.

Local Hunter Education Courses set

Two Nebraska Firearm Hunter Education Courses are scheduled locally in October. Ted Bonesteel will be teaching it in Mullen on October 21 and 22 from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. both days in the Hooker County Library basement. Dane Peterson will be teaching it in Thedford on October 28 and 29 from 1-6 p.m.

An evening of poetry in Mullen

Nebraska State Poet Matt Mason was in Mullen last Wednesday, Sept. 20. He presented at Mullen High School during 8th hour that day and then held a Poetry Reading at the Mullen Arts Center that evening with local poet Lyn Messersmith.

Nebraska Broadband Office invites comments

Lincoln – The Nebraska Broadband Office has announced the availability of the new Nebraska Broadband Availability Map. The GIS map represents all served, underserved, and unserved broadband serviceable locations across the state.

Alice Phipps went to Elwood on Saturday, Sept. 9 to attend the 50th anniversary celebration for Ed and Deb Arends at Johnson Lake that evening. Many friends and family were in attendance. Sunday, Alice and Deb visited the Dan Clarks at Johnson Lake to see their new house.
