Broken wooden bridge on Highway 97 closes road

The Mullen Nebraska Department of Transportation crew was doing some annual patching road maintenance last month on Highway 97 when they noticed that there was a slight dip in the bridge over the North Loup River 25 miles north of Mullen.

Girl Scouts to begin September 18th

Come join the fun with the Mullen Girl Scouts! Girl Scouts is open to all girls in grades K-12 regardless if they have been involved before or not. Meetings for K-7th grade students will be on Mondays 3:20 – 4:30 p.m. at the elementary lunchroom beginning Sept. 18.

Sandhills Discovery Center moving forward

Lincoln - The Nebraska 4-H Foundation, in a special board meeting, has committed $2 million to the Nebraska Community Foundation as a match toward the development of a Sandhills Discovery Center.

Nebraska State Fair continues to grow

The Nebraska State Fair announced continued attendance growth in 2023. The attendance at Nebraska’s largest annual event broke 300,000 for the first time since COVID, posting 8.5 percent growth over 2022 with 311,909 guests during its 11-day run ending on Labor Day.

Hooker County’s 4-H State Fair results

Several Hooker County 4-H members were part of the 120 Nebraska State Fair entries exhibited by the Central Sandhills 4-H programs. Central Sandhills Area Extension has seen enrollment increase in every one of their counties since 2021.
