Hooker County Fair Kings & Queens

The honor of the Hooker County Fair King and Queen has been a fair tradition since 1987. Prior to 1987, a Hooker County Fair Queen and Princess were named after a queen contest that took place with competitions such as speech, style show and sitting down to a fancy meal.

The Hooker County Fair is here and it’s a busy week for most of us! Lots of activities still to come this week; be sure to get out and enjoy all the community has to offer! Goldie Little is appreciative of the handy work of son Alan and Bonnie Little of North Platte.

Mick and Midge Harding had a wonderful weekend with daughter Margo Ferguson of Scottsbluff coming to visit.

Doris Starr enjoyed the gathering Thursday at Judy Ridenour’s home for Create and Chat. Peggy Marsh met Thursday at the Old Hotel for the Historical Society meeting. Bob and Peggy hosted lunch for Dean Marsh of rural Kearney, Friday.

Village receives grant

The Village of Mullen recently utilized a $500 Lean on LARM Safety Grant to purchase fire-resistant clothing for employees. Tony Corbin, Village of Mullen Utility Superintendent, applied for and was awarded the grant.

Lincoln - Consolidated Companies, Inc. has kicked off construction on fiber network upgrades in several Nebraska locations. The fiber-to-thepremises technology provides phone service and internet service at speeds up to 1 Gigabit.

Over 50 participate in Water Carnival

by Gerri Peterson The annual Water Carnival kicked off Hooker County Fair festivities this year on Friday, July 28. The baby pool events saw 19 participants ages 6 and under. They did the coin toss, pop toss, watermelon race and regular race.
