Hooker County 4-H member Faith Miller was recognized by the Livestock Achievement Program in beef as a Senior Member of Excellence at the Nebraska State Fair.

Construction to begin for Merritt breakwater

Valentine - A new breakwater planned at Merritt Reservoir State Recreation Area will protect a nearby boat launch and shoreline. The construction project is scheduled to begin this month as workers capitalize on the low water levels at the Sandhills irrigation reservoir.

Derek and Jenny Bruhl and Karlie of Lincoln came Saturday to visit Larry and Georgann French and went home Monday. Lois Nordahl, Leila Hicks, Ben Carson and Leah Carson were additional Sunday supper guests.

The Bob Marshes attended the Homecoming volleyball and football games and the coronation following Friday. Wade Marsh, Hadley and Kyler stopped by the Bob Marshes Sunday afternoon. Haley Jones had lunch with the Bob Marshes and Ty Marsh Monday.

Last Thursday, Sept. 2 the MHS football and volleyball teams and the youth football teams had a special guest speaker - J.R. Vezain, a six-time NFR qualifier who broke his back while competing in the bareback riding three years ago this month at the Pasadena, Texas, Livestock Show & Rodeo.
