Miller, Jennings compete in first rodeos

The fall Nebraska High School Rodeo season began last weekend in Bassett. Mullen High School senior Faith Miller and junior Whitney Jennings were the local cowgirls competing. On Saturday, Aug. 14 Whitney won the girls cutting with a 71 and placed 3rd in the barrels with an 18.334.

MPCC’s Sunday College for busy students

Mid-Plains Community College is offering students another way to fit classes in around busy schedules. Sunday College is designed with convenience in mind – allowing general education requirements to be completed in just eight weeks.

Historical Society to meet Aug. 26

The Hooker County Historical Society met Thursday, July 29. Present: Charlie Jones, Ken Clark, Jennifer Peters, Ted and Sue Bonesteel, Frank Harding, Catherine Sullivan, Ty Walker and Sara Winter. Ken called the meeting to order at 7:03 p.m.

Lincoln - The Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) is reminding the public that it is unlawful to place political campaign signs, or any unpermitted signs, on state highway and interstate right-of-way.

Cross country team attends elevation camp in Colorado

I have always wanted to take a team to an elevation cross country camp because I’ve heard it’s one of the best ways to prepare runners for their XC season. I gave the kids the choice to participate and I had three who were very excited to go.

Goodwill Club of Family and Community Education meets

Goodwill Club of Family and Community Education met at the Village meeting room on Thursday morning, Aug. 5 with president Lois Folk opening the meeting. The flag salute and club collect were given. The club song, “Onward, Ever Onward” was sung.

Nebraska brand law changes

Alliance - The Nebraska Brand Committee will soon be rolling out changes, required by law, due to the passage of LB 572 in May. One of the most significant items of this law included the reduction of the per head brand inspection fee from $1.00 to $.85.
