Margaret Lucille Steggall, 96, passed away in Edgemont, South Dakota, Friday, Jan. 1, 2021, at the home of her granddaughter. She was born, Nov. 8, 1924, in Casper, Wyoming, to Joseph and Sophie (Popenhagen) Sonnenfelt.
Margaret graduated from Ashby, Nebraska, in 1943 and was proud that she was the only one out of nine siblings to graduate.
She married Nyle Steggall Jan. 25, 1945, in Hyannis, Nebraska. They made their home in Bingham, Nebraska, where they raised seven children.
In 1972, they moved to Glendo, Wyoming, and in 1980 they moved to Fort Laramie, Wyoming, where they lived until Nyle passed away.
Margaret worked for the Senior Center in Fort Laramie. She moved to Rapid City, South Dakota, in 2007 to live with her oldest daughter, Joanne until Dec. 1 when she moved in with her granddaughter, Brenda. Her granddaughter, Mandy was her caregiver at the end.
Margaret loved playing different kinds of instruments and music. She loved her trips to Deadwood with her daughters and loved playing cards and bingo.
Margaret is survived by six children, Joanne Wright, Rapid City, S.D.; Dennis (Cindy), Broken Bow, Neb.; Jim (Carolyn) Alliance, NE; Cyndy (Rodney) Coziahr, Glennrock, WY; Connie (Jim) Bowsher, For Laramie, WY; and Catherine (Larry) Walker, Cody, Wyo.; son-in-law, Bobby Harthshorm Upton, Wyo.; 14 grandchildren 18 great-grandchildren; and 8 great-great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Donna Todd, Mary Eversull, and Viola Vineyard all from Pahrump, Nev.; one brother, Bill Sonnenfelt, Mullen, Neb.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Nyle; one daughter, Donna; two sisters; two brothers; and three sons-in-law.
At Margaret’s request graveside services were Jan. 5, 2021 at Fort Laramie Cemetery at Fort Laramie, Wyoming.
