Samuel Crouse

Samuel O. Crouse, age 73, of Alliance, Nebraska, formerly of Ashby, Nebraska, passed away May 5, 2021, at the Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

Samuel O’Dell Crouse was born on Jan. 16, 1948, at Alliance to William and Virginia (Fodge) Crouse. He grew up in Ashby, where he attended grade school and graduated from Hyannis High School in 1966.

After high school Sam moved to Sidney where he attended trade school for auto mechanic. He later returned to Ashby where he worked with his father at “Bill’s Garage.” Sam married Carol Timmens on Feb. 1, 1969, at Chadron, Nebraska. He worked at the garage until retiring in 2000.

Sam served in the Nebraska National Guard from 1967 to 1974. He also served as the Grant County Deputy Sheriff from 1969 to 1999. After retirement from the garage, he went to work for Sandhill Oil Company delivering propane.

The last seven years Sam has lived in the Highland Park Care Center in Alliance.

Sam was a member of the Ashby Congregational Church, the Alliance Eagles Club and American Legion Post # 57.

Sam is survived by his wife Carol of Ashby, children; Dolly (Randy) Freeman of Sanford, Fla., Mike (Brenda) Crouse of Rapid City, S.D., and Lisa Crouse of Council Bluffs, Iowa, one granddaughter Rebekah Freeman of Sanford, Fla., brothers, Russel Crouse of Ashby and Shannon (Janet) Crouse of Ashby, and a niece Christina Koch of Hershey.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were May 11, 2021, at the Ashby Congregational Church in Ashby, with Mick McCarthy officiating. Burial with military honors was in the Ashby Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Ashby Congregational Church.
