Linda Sue Jaster

Linda Sue Jaster, 75, of Elm Mott, Texas, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 13, 2024.

Born on Nov. 29, 1948, to Jim and Ruby Simonson, Linda grew up in Mullen, Nebraska, where she graduated from Mullen High School in 1967.

She continued her education at the University of Nebraska, earning a bachelor’s degree in Food and Nutrition in 1972 and then completed an internship at Oklahoma State University.

In 1973, Linda moved to Waco and began her career at Texas State Technical College (TSTI/TSTC), sharing and teaching her passion for culinary arts for 42 years until her retirement in 2015.

On April 3, 1980, she married Larry Jaster and together they built a life filled with love and family. Linda was devoted to her sons and grandsons, always cheering them on in their various endeavors.

Known for her exceptional baking skills, she became famous for her pecan rolls, peanut butter rolls and dinner rolls, especially at holiday family meals and gatherings.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents Jim and Ruby Simonson; her brother Sam Simonson; daughter-inlaw Melissa Jaster; brother-inlaw David Jaster; and nephew Josh Simonson.

She is survived by her husband Larry Jaster; sons JD Jaster and Jim Bob Jaster (Brooke); grandsons Tyler Jaster, Tanner Jaster, Jacob “Tripp” Jaster, Hayes Jaster, Barrett Jaster, and Reed Jaster; brothers Alan Simonson (Linda), George Simonson (Gloria), and Tim Simonson (Deanna); sister-in-law Val Simonson; and numerous nieces, nephews and other family members.

Memorial contributions can be made to Trail to the Cross Cowboy Church in Hillsboro, Texas, or Melissa Jaster Memorial Scholarship Fund.

Pallbearers were her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers were Homer Jones, Kenneth Reinke, George Crawshaw and Charles Plemons.
