MHS students travel to Florida for Hardin’s 6th trip

For the sixth time, a group of Mullen High School students got to experience the ultimate field trip - traveling to Florida. Over the last 10 years MHS science teacher Sarah Hardin has taken students on this trip, with this year’s being the biggest group yet with 16 students.

Central Community College has announced the names of full-time students who earned spots on the Dean’s honor list for the 2024 spring semester.The students were enrolled at one or more CCC locations.Students on the Dean’s Honor List earned a GPA between 3.5 and 3.99.

MHS graduates named to dean’s lists

A total of 135 students qualified for the Mid-Plains Community College Dean’s List during the 2024 spring semester.To make the list, students had to complete 12 or more applicable credit hours of college-level courses and maintain an overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 – 3.89 on a 4.0 scale.

Rare flamingo species spotted

by Kelli WalzA flock of flamingos has been located in Mullen, landing in various yards throughout town and roosting for the night. The flock is expected to be here all summer. As a fundraiser for National FCCLA in Seattle, Washington, the Mullen qualifiers are moving the flamingos.

McCully on Dean’s List

Chadron - Brooke McCully of Mullen was named to the Chadron State College Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 semester.Students met the requirements for the Dean’s List by earning at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average.

Neal graduates

Lincoln - Kendal Neal of Tryon graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln May 18. Memorial Stadium hosted the ceremony for undergraduates.Neal earned a Bachelor of Science in Animal Science from the College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources.

Kuncl earns academic awards

Seward - A combined 53 student-athletes from the Concordia University Track & Field programs earned recognition as 2024 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes. With 39 award winners, the Concordia women’s program led all NAIA track and field teams nationally.

Schoonveld receives scholarship

The Nebraska Public Leadership Foundation (NPLF) recently awarded two $1,000 scholarships to two high school seniors who are pursuing higher education to become a teacher in a Nebraska public school system.
