Youth football teams to play their first home games

The Mullen youth football teams will play their first home game this Sunday, Oct. 3 against Stapleton. The 3rd and 4th grades play at 2:00 p.m. MT, followed by the 5th and 6th grades. Next Sunday, Oct. 10 is also a home game against Maxwell, with the same game times.

High school fall rodeos wrap up

The Nebraska High School Rodeo fall season wrapped up last weekend in Callaway and North Platte. In Callaway on Saturday, Sept. 18 Whitney Jennings placed 2nd in the breakaway with a 2.97, 6th in cutting with a 66 and 9th in goats with a 10.060. She finished 14th in barrels with a 19.275.

Lady Broncos compete in Sutherland, Arthur triangulars

The Lady Broncos played in two triangulars last week, the first one being in Sutherland on Tuesday, Sept. 14. The D2 Broncos lost to C2 Sutherland 23-25 and 18-25. Alli Loughran served 9/9 for 7 points and Jadyn Andersen served 11/12 for 10 points.

Spencer DeNaeyer is 2021 NSRA bareback runner-up

At the Nebraska State Rodeo Association Finals earlier this month, Mullen High School senior Spencer DeNaeyer was the only local competitor to place in the finals. He won round one of the bareback at finals on Friday, Sept. 10 with a score of 74. He finished the year 2nd in the standings.

Broncos defeat Garden County 32-6, improve to 3-1

The Garden County Eagles’ football team went home with their first loss of the season last Friday night when the Broncos defeated them 32-6. Garden County was the first team to score on the night, but then never saw the end zone again.

XC team brings home Bridgeport medals

The Mullen XC team traveled to Bridgeport on Thursday, Sept. 14th. Senior Trevor Kuncl placed 1st with a time of 17:25.84. Freshman Peyton Paxton placed 1st with a time of 20:45.70 and senior Callie Coble was 2nd with a 21:13.44. Junior High ran 3,000 meters. Tierston Moore: 2nd 12:02.

The Mullen Bronco football team traveled to Maywood-Hayes Center last Thursday, Sept. 9, coming home with a big 81-27 win. “We returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown and didn’t look back,” is how Head Coach Wade Marsh described the game.

Kuncl, junior high girls place 1st at Imperial

It was a hot 92 degree day for the Mullen runners last Thursday, Sept. 9 in Imperial. Peyton Paxton got a new PR of 20:37.6, placing 2nd. Callie Coble placed 4th with a time of 21:16. Trevor Kuncl got 1st with a time of 17:03, taking 41 seconds off of his time from the week before.

The Lady Broncos went 1-2 at the Seven Valleys Tournament in Callaway on Saturday, Sept. 11, but all three of their games were close and exciting. Their first game was against Ansley-Litchfield, losing 19-25 and 18-25. “Our serving was really good,” Head Coach Jennifer Moore said.

The Bow Ladies Invite was held at the local course in Broken Bow on Sept. 7. With continued improvement, Corynn Corbin again bested last year’s score with a 127. Corynn had a couple struggles but bounced back strong on the next hole. 50 golfers showed up to compete for 15 medals.
