Dear Dave, I switched to a debit card so that the money I spend comes directly from my checking account. But I still have a problem some months with overspending and buying things I shouldn’t. Do you think I should stop using my debit card?

I was in Kearney last Thursday with fellow newspaper publishers for a Nebraska Press Association strategic planning meeting. After 15 years of networking through NPA conventions and serving on boards and committees for the association, I love any type of gathering with these like-minded people.

Tuesday, Jan. 30, marks the Day 18 of the 2024 legislative session. After devoting the first three weeks to bill introduction and rules debate, the legislature got down to business with morning floor debate and afternoon committee hearings.

Dear Dave, We have all our debts paid off, except for our home, and our fully funded emergency fund of six months of expenses is in place. In talking to people, it seems there are lots of different opinions as to what constitutes an emergency.

Monday, January 22, marks Day 13 of the session and the first day for half-day floor debate followed by afternoon committee hearings. The task now begins to hold public hearings for nearly 600 bills introduced this year. Hearings will continue through the end of February.

Like students today, I accumulated all kinds of T-shirts from sports and other activities that I was involved in during school. So in college I started making a T-shirt quilt with my favorite old ones that I was still proud of but never wore anymore.
