‘You don’t get something from doing nothing’

Phill Hoyt grew up in this area and moved away later on in his life, but about five years ago, he decided to move back. His younger years consisted of ranching, schooling and enjoying the wonderful outdoors. The ranch he lived on was about 25 miles north of Hyannis.

Brooks now a permanent resident here

sophomore Pamela Brooks is the mother of Dominique Werner and the grandmother of Alex and Ben Werner. Pam’s path has been long and winding but has eventually found its way into Mullen, Nebraska.

Mullen natives make their way back

Pat and Leota Donohoe have been loved by the community for around 20 years. Although they both graduated from Mullen High School, Mullen is not where the couple has always lived. They started their journey by moving to Kansas City, Missouri, and living there for about three years.

Mullen’s Frank Harding is ‘dang old’ at 101

by Jacob Walker, MHS sophomore Frank Harding was born in Hooker County. He said that he has lived within a five mile radius of the courthouse for over 100 years. The way he ended up here is because of his grandpa. His grandpa moved here in about 1887.

Kathie Hassett is ‘loving retirement’

sophomore Kathie Hassett may be better known as the lady who used to be behind the grill in the Drive Inn, but she is also known to play many other roles. Her favorite one is being a Mullen citizen. She participated in all school activities, band, and musical activities as a child.

Jim Folk loves being part of Mullen

sophomore Jim Folk has had a great time in Mullen together ever since he got married to Ruby on Aug. 27, 1961, in Valentine, Nebraska. They have now been married for 62 years, but before we get there we should start with Jim’s childhood.

Sophomore Margaret Marks, more wellknown as Sooky, is a big part of our community. She has been a proud member of the Mullen community since 1981. She is involved in many things throughout the town including TeamMates, Girl Scouts, MYF, ESU 16 Board and an EMT.
