As I sit here this early morning on the eve of our nation’s Veterans Day recognition, I have to ponder upon the words of what it means to be “A Land of the Free.

11 active COVID-19 cases

As of press time on Tuesday, Nov. 3, Hooker County’s COVID-19 case count had increased to 24 - with 11 active cases. Last week at this time we were at 18 total cases and 9 active.

With the Mullen Broncos often playing a volleyball or football playoff game on Halloween, bowls of candy sitting outside for trick-or-treaters have been common over the years. But this year with COVID-19 precautions, they were seen at many houses. Gerri Peterson

An update from Pioneer Memorial Rest Home

Pioneer Memorial Rest Home has been learning about and dealing with COVID-19 for almost eight months now. We have been very fortunate to remain COVID free within our resident population, and are currently in phase 2 of our reopening plan.

Mobile food pantry to be this Saturday

A drive through mobile food pantry will be in Mullen on Saturday, Nov. 7 from 9-11 a.m. at the Hooker County Fairgrounds. Please stay in your vehicle and open your trunk. Everyone is welcome - no documentation needed. Call 402-331-1213 with any questions or Mullen Assembly of God at 308-546-2253.

Veterans Day program to be held

Mullen Public Schools will be hosting a Veterans Day program on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. at the Lariat. Masks will be required. There will be separate seating areas for the public and school students.

Deer check moves to online only

Lincoln - Because of COVID-19 concerns, the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will not run check stations this firearm deer season. Instead, all deer will be checked in electronically via Telecheck.
