17,772 acres burned in Hooker County fire last week

Gerri Peterson Mullen’s Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief, Tyler Cash, said 17,772 acres burned in Hooker County last Tuesday, Feb. 25.The fire started just south of the Dismal River, west of Highway 97, from a brush pile that had been burned with a permit the week before.

by Gerri Peterson Last year there were 188,924 pounds of recyclables diverted from local landfills by residents in the Upper Loup NRD area. The ULNRD has recycling trailers located in Thedford, Mullen, Hyannis, Halsey, Brownlee, Purdum and Stapleton.
