STEM Club and the Hour of Code

At the December STEM Club meeting last week the students had an hour of coding using Minecraft education. They explored teaching AI to complete tasks through patterns and repetition with the Hour of Code.
The 4th graders did a “Holiday Tech Puzzle Choice Board” in library class last Wednesday, Dec. 17 and the “Grinch Hour of Code” was one of the options. These four students (pictured l-r: Marcus Lattin, Eli Barnes, Holt Morrison and Grady Phipps) completed all 20 levels of creating a basic block code featuring the Grinch and other characters from the new animated Grinch movie. Open house to be held at new geothermal greenhouse

 A new era of hands-on science education is taking root at Mullen High School with the installation of a geothermal greenhouse, made possible by a generous anonymous donation to the science department.
In her third year as the (K-8) music teacher, Mary Jo Walker also now has a high school choir class. The choir sang five songs at the Christmas Concert held at the Lariat last Tuesday, Dec. 2. They are pictured afterwards, l-r: Mary Lou Harding (piano accompanist), Hayden Morrison, Abigail Gracey, Maci Walz, Kassidy Cheever, Breckyn Burney, Audrabell Werth, Mary Jo Walker.

The Mullen first graders recently learned about the setting of a book (where and when the story takes place) by reading the book, “Balloons Over Broadway: The True Story of the Puppeteer of Macy’s Parade.” Then they built or drew their own floats or balloons.
