Sandhill Defenders wrap up season

by Barb McIntosh The Sandhill Defenders traveled to Holdrege for the Nebraska Pride Tournament to end their season on Feb. 25. Their first game was by far their toughest of the day, playing the Nebraska Pride Black Kearney team who ended up winning the tournament.

Academic Excellence Award for cross country

The Mullen girls cross country team has been named a 2023-24 Nebraska Coaches Association Academic Excellence Award Recipient. The criteria for the award is a 3.30 team cumulative GPA for the fall 2023 semester.

Kuncl earns GPAC Indoor All-Conference

Because of his effort at the 2024 GPAC Indoor Track & Field Championship, Mullen native Trevor Kuncl, a sophomore at Concordia University, earned all-conference honors. Kuncl earned a GPAC Indoor All-Conference Award by placing 8th in the mile.

sophomore With the tight deadline between State Wrestling and when the Tribune pages went to press last week, we caught up with Mullen High School Wrestling Head Coach Russ Monette for additional comments.
The Mullen girls 3rd/4th grade basketball team won the Broken Bow Tournament out of 12 teams on Saturday, Feb. 17, only giving up a cumulative total of 6 points in 3 games. Boys basketball team ends season with 8-12 record

The boys basketball team played against Anselmo- Merna in their sub-district game last Tuesday, Feb. 20 in Thedford. Mullen started out the game with the lead at the end of the first half, 14-11. Merna took the lead after the third quarter, 24-26.
