Nebraska Birding Bowl begins May 1

Registration is open for the Nebraska Birding Bowl, a friendly competition to observe as many bird species as possible while supporting wildlife conservation. All birders are welcome.The fourth annual Birding Bowl will take place May 1-31 to help celebrate Nebraska Bird Month.

Lincoln - Winners in the Nebraska Press Association’s Better Newspaper Contest were announced Saturday, April 18 during an awards banquet at the Cornhusker Marriott Hotel in Lincoln to cap off the annual NPA Convention.

United Women in Faith hold March meeting

United Women in Faith met Wednesday afternoon, March 11 in the senior high room of the Methodist Church. Six members were present and visitor Dawn Mallory. President Sue Bonesteel opened the meeting. Concerns were given and very emphatic concerns for conditions happening in the world.

Locals set U.S. record at Valentine Livestock sale barn

National Beef Wire reported that Valentine Livestock held a Special Feeder Sale last Thursday, April 9, that may go down as one of the greatest in barn history, setting 18 steer records and 7 national records.The sale was led by 172 head at 710 pounds bringing $468.

The Thomas and Hooker County 4-H Communications and Expressive Arts Contest was held Monday, April 6 at the Bethel Assembly of God Church. There was a great showing of talent and public speaking skills from 13 4-H’ers!
